Description

The pitcher is called “Matka” in Hindi. It is a traditional article to store water. It comes in various sizes and can be beautifully decorated with paint or even carved. Being made of clay, it is naturally porous allowing the water inside to cool and be several degrees colder than the outside. They are still a major feature of households in rural areas.

We have taken the same shape and made the Matka eternal by carving it out of a solid block of marble and inlaying it with exquisite semi-precious stones.

This specific pitcher is inlaid with lapis lazuli in the shape of flowers called “Moolsari” with arches of paua shell.

So take part in our journey of discovering exotic India and bringing the traditional Matka to your home.
